This morning I was going through a blog from an ethnic
region. It was from a state in Southern India, where traditionally women may be suppressed and may not be aware
that they are suppressed to some extent. Do you sense any theory behind these
statements? Good, that means you are thinking and applying conflict theory! The
guy was conducting a survey among few of his women friends at work. Although he
could have done a real time study, he only conducted it on about 10-12 women
participants willing to answer those questions.
At best it could be called a prestudy..The questions posed were
How do they address their husband, is it by name or call
them by variations equivalent to calling them mister, sir etc.
None of the women
interviewed said they would call their husband by name, at least in public.
Other questions were, (published in the article by Ramana

Do you touch your husband’s feet as a matter to show
reverence during festivals or prayers? Traditionally Indian women consider their
husband as equivalent to God, at least so to speak in the rituals where
they consider the husband as “pati-dev” (pati
means husband, and dev means God)
Do you ever spank
your husband?
Does he ever touch your feet ?
The very fact that this guy wanted to conduct this study,
which is not totally scientific as he has not done any reviews of literature or
given out the objective of the study or even proposed any hypothesis shows that
his intention was not anything purely scientific. In fact the method adopted
scientific technique but the analysis was very unscientific as he started
talking with no particular message.
If a society has to prove itself to show that they are
capable or in par with the rest of the world in progress, there is a whole lot more to it than meets
the eye.. I would definitely come back and discuss about this issue, later this
